              Medical coding is the process of extracting data from a doctor's notes on a patient's medical history, including medical procedures, diagnoses, necessary medical equipment, and medical services. This data is converted into universal medical alphanumeric codes by a medical coder. Later they are billed to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes. They uses a set of specific codes for coding purposes.

                      International Classification of Diseases or ICD codes is an internationally recognised code was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The classification system is primarily used for data collecting and health records, among other things. These codes can categorise signs, conditions, illnesses, and fatalities. For instance ICD L98.0 denotes pyogenic granulomas. 

                                Pyogenic granulomas are small, raised, and red bumps on the skin. The bumps have a smooth surface and may be moist. They bleed easily because of the high number of blood vessels at the site. It is a benign (noncancerous) growth. Pyogenic granulomas are skin lesions that can develop after an injury.

                          The exact cause of pyogenic granulomas is unknown. They often appear following an injury on the hands, arms, or face. Pyogenic granulomas are common in children and pregnant women.

Signs of a pyogenic granuloma are:

• A small red lump on the skin that bleeds easily.
• Often found at the site of a recent injury.
• Usually seen on hands, arms, and face, but they may develop in the mouth (most often in pregnant women).
