MEDICAL CODING.
Medical Coding is the conversion of healthcare procedures from a healthcare professional or a doctor like diagnosis, treatment received, prescriptions, equipment used by a patient into universally recognised alphanumeric codes. These codes are later billed to insurance companies to claim insurance for the payment purposes. There are three types of universally known medical alphanumeric codes : International Classification of Diseases(ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding (HCPCS).
International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is a set of codes published and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO).The classification system is primarily used for data collecting and health records, among other purposes. These codes can categorise signs, conditions, illnesses, and mortality. For instance ICD code J33.0 denotes polyp of nasal cavity.
